'Twilight' Star Robert Pattinson Moves From Edward Cullen To Salvador Dali

"Little Ashes" will reveal the most dramatic role yet in Robert Pattinson's young career, as he steps away from the Edward Cullen role in Twilight and assumes the persona of eccentric, surrealist painter Salvador Dalí.

The movie depicts an 18-year-old Dalí as he makes the move from his small birth town in Spain to Madrid, where he begins experimenting with the cubist style that launched his young career. The film also depicts young poet/dramatist Federico García Lorca (newcomer Javier Beltran) and filmmaker Luis Buñel (Matthew McNulty from "Control") and the friendship forged between the three men.

Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech (1904 to 1989) was best known for such dazzling, bizarre paintings as "The Persistence of Memory" and "Swans Reflecting Elephants." A collaborator with the likes of Walt Disney and Alfred Hitchcock (who both tapped into his mind for scenes in their films), Dalí excelled at drawing attention to himself through his unconventional clothes and facial hair — a persona he largely developed during the early years that "Little Ashes" will portray.

Clearly, Pattinson's "Twilight" follow-up will be a long way from Stephenie Meyer's best-selling young-adult novels — but his loyal fans are already eager to see if he will once again dazzle them.

Rob Leaves Edward (and Fanggirls) in the Dust?

A few clips have been released on MTV of Robert Pattinson in his upcoming anti-Twilight flick Little Ashes.

R. Pattz shot this movie before the vampire megahit, and as he has said on numerous occasions, pretty P doesn't want to be typecast as a heartthrob.

Well, he sure won't have to worry about that in this quasi-gritty movie 'cause Rob-babe plays a young Salvador Dali, a character with all kinds of gay tendencies.

So will the Robert obsessees follow this flick, too? It's one helluva departure from their beloved Twi character. Or is it?

Seems like in the two clips, Pattz sort of moons, vacant-faced, through this one, too. Granted, what can you tell from a minute-long snippet of an entire film? We'll gladly give R the benefit of the doubt and check out his acting chops May 8.

Either way, bravo to the kid for recognizing his need for diverse films from the get-go, so unlike counterpart Zac Efron, who totally backed out of Footloose way last minute.
Seriously though, this film is gonna put the Rob fanggirls to the test. Will they be able to stand seeing their boy-toy kinda gayed up? Or is it Edward whom they are all really in love with. Opening weekend should be interesting!

As this movie was shot prior to Twilight, it is interesting to watch the pre-Twilight Robert Pattinson in the raw sans the "boy next door" image.

Javier Beltran talks "Little Ashes"

An older interview with Little Ashes star Javier Beltran reveals the director's intent to convey the romantic connection which existed between Spanish artists Federico Garcia Lorca and Salvador Dali. According to Beltran, who took on the role of playwright Lorca, "its not just the story of two people."

He goes on to explain why director and cast felt it was so important to truthfully convey the true nature of their relationship: "Even though the homosexuality between the two is there and you only need to open three or four books to prove it because it has not been hidden, the director did not try to hide from it with the consensus of all the actors."

Ultimately, he claims the goal was to determine "how much Lorca is in Dalí's [played by Robert Pattinson] work and how much Dali is in Garcia Lorca's work."

Bigger star Robert Pattinson is grabbing the lion's share in the publicity for this movie but Javier Beltran would like to prove that his performance in Little Ashes deserves something to talk about.

Picture of Nude Robert Pattinson in 'Little Ashes' Found

A full frontal picture of naked Robert Pattinson from his upcoming drama movie, 'Little Ashes', has been found.

A picture of "Twilight" hunk Robert Pattinson in nothing but his birthday suit has made its round. Displaying the 22-year-old while he stands naked in front of a mirror, the image was posted by Perez Hilton and is taken from his forthcoming indie movie, "Little Ashes", in which the British actor portrays young Salvador Dali. Previously, Pattinson has shared that he struggled for the naked stuff he was required to do in the movie and even got to "a nervous breakdown" after filming "extremely hard-core sex scene". "I was kind of crossing lines of what I thought I was comfortable doing," he explained as quoted in the April issue of GQ magazine. "I had to do all this naked stuff." "Little Ashes" is set against the backdrop of Fascist Spain in 1922. It follows the love affair between Salvador Dali and poet Federico Garcia Lorcathree. Taking its title from Salvador Dali's 1927-28 painting Cenicitas, it stars Robert Pattinson as Dali, Javier Beltran as Federico Garcia Lorca and Matthew McNulty as Luis Bunuel. This drama film comes from director Paul Morrison. It has been premiered at the 16th annual Raindance film festival in London back in October and will get its limited U.S. release on May 8. The picture of naked Robert Pattinson can be seen via Perez Hilton.

With the alleged "sexy scene" of Robert Pattinson in the movie, this proves to be a must-see for all his fans.

What Little Ashes the Movie is All About

Madrid in 1922 is a city wavering on the edge of change as traditional values are challenged by the dangerous new influences of jazz, Freud and the avant-garde. Salvador Dalí arrives at university at the age of 18 years old, determined to become a great artist. His bizarre blend of shyness and rampant exhibitionism attracts the attention of two of the university’s social elite — Federico García Lorca and Luis Buñuel. Salvador is absorbed into their decadent group and for a time he, Luis and Federico become a formidable trio, the most ultra-modern group in Madrid. However, as time passes, Salvador feels an increasingly strong pull toward the charismatic Federico — who is oblivious to the attention he is getting from his beautiful writer friend, Magdalena. Finally, in the face of his friends’ preoccupations — and Federico’s growing renown as a poet — Luis sets off for Paris in search of his own artistic success.

Alone in Madrid, Federico struggles against his psyche, tortured by the damning implications of his own religious beliefs and the undeniable voice of his flesh. He is haunted by news of Salvador, who is collaborating on a Surrealist film with Luis and has embarked on an affair with Gala, a married woman.

By 1936 Spain is teetering on the precipice of civil war, and Federico, now a highly acclaimed and controversial playwright, receives an invitation to dinner from Salvador and Gala. But the hosts have a rather unusual agenda and the evening is a disaster. A week later, Salvador is hosting a party when he discovers that Federico has been assassinated in the outbreak of war. The walls of self-denial that surround the artist come crashing down as he realizes, too late, the depth of his love for Federico.

This appears to be an interesting story for those who admire artist Salvador Dali particularly on his "secret devotion" to colleague Federico. A "Brokeback Mountain" of sorts?

The movie stars Robert Pattinson of the "Twilight" phenomenon and Javier Beltran. Looks like an exciting follow-up movie for heartthrob Robert Pattinson.
